The Stadium District and the North Slope Historic District hold some of the oldest housing stock on the map — 1900s and 1910s homes whose kitchens have been remodeled three times but whose wiring was updated maybe once. A modern refrigerator or range on a circuit that predates the machine by decades misbehaves in ways that look like control faults and are not. The North End sweep measures supply voltage under load before any board is blamed, and sends the readings on to an electrician when the house owns the problem.
In the historic districts, an exterior wall is not a free place to put a new dryer vent, and a lot of North Slope laundry rooms vent the long way as a result — up, over, and out a side wall the district allowed. Long runs lose pressure and hoard lint; the sweep measures the loss at the machine and says outright when the duct rather than the dryer is slowing the loads.
Two very different North End fleets share the leg: the compact and European machines in Point Ruston’s new condos, and the hard-worked rental appliances in the blocks around the university and along the 6th Avenue side.
