Auburn is the one leg on the map that leaves the bay behind: over the Northeast Tacoma hill, down into the valley, and up West Hill. Owen runs it as a scheduled leg with calls batched by neighborhood — West Hill together, the west-Auburn streets and Algona together — so a 98001 window is a planned commitment rather than a hopeful estimate.
Auburn draws its own water from local springs and wells, and it runs noticeably harder than the Tacoma supply on the rest of the map. That flips the usual findings: film on glassware here is minerals rather than detergent, ice-maker valves crust up years earlier, and inlet screens on washers need a look every visit. The sweep on the Auburn leg is tuned for hard water the way the bay-side sweep is tuned for salt.
The valley floor runs damp — crawlspaces, garages and utility rooms that never quite dry out from October to May — and damp works on dryer terminals, washer connections and refrigerator hinge steel. West Hill’s view homes trade that for slope: laundry a flight down, garages a flight up, and the stairs are part of the job. Both get read alongside the machine, and the log says which faults the setting will go on producing.
